What we do
Founded in 2014 by Anton and his family, Artefex began because artists needed a stronger, longer-lasting surface than wood or stretched canvas. No. While the name highlights its suitability for tempera, the Artefex Tempanel (450) is a universally primed surface. It is professionally engineered as an art panel for Tempera, Acrylic, Oil, and Watercolor painting. This versatility makes it an excellent choice for artists who work in mixed media or want a single, reliable surface that accepts almost any paint application.
How is the 3mm Tempanel constructed?
The Tempanel is built on a 3mm Aluminum Composite Material (ACM) core. It consists of two strong sheets of aluminum laminated to both sides of a black polyethylene core. This construction ensures the panel is "lightweight but rigid," providing a "super rigid" surface that has no flex or movement during use, unlike flexible canvas or cardboard supports
Why is the Tempanel considered better than wood for tempera?
Traditional wood panels can warp or crack due to changes in humidity, which is disastrous for brittle mediums like tempera. The Tempanel (450) is "warp-resistant" and engineered to protect your creative vision for generations,. Because the aluminum composite has a very low response to environmental changes, it provides the "exceptional stability" required for delicate tempera layers.
